As I sat behind my computer, looking for inspiration, Facebook reminded me of a self-portrait I did about two years ago. Was it really me showing on that picture? Did I really look like that? I asked my husband. Just like myself, he also carried the opinion that I had changed over the course of those two years. But what exactly and how much was the change? I knew my mission: doing a remake of the early 2015 self-portrait and look for the differences.
It seemed rather easy. I checked the 2015 photo’s data and used exactly the original objective and camera settings. I put the light source in the same place, took the same pose and “click”. But surely it wasn’t that easy. Setting the light went well, but taking the exact pose was something completely different!
Eventually I ended with a picture that matched pretty good with the first picture. And indeed, I definitely had changed!
There aren’t any more bags below my eyes, and my eyelids are no longer swollen. My face has narrowed due to a lower fat percentage . How did that come?
For 4 years now I have been working on a strength training routine twice a week. I also started to eat less meat gradually. Eightteen months ago I decided to go zero on alcohol. Not even those delicious bubbles anymore! And about half a year ago, I turned to a fully plant based organic diet.
People often ask why I do this. Answers like: I do it for my health or I feel much fitter now are quite abstract. With my self portrait today it is pretty obvious. The proof is in the pudding.
